Odisha Hosts International Media Delegation Ahead of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Bhubaneswar: A 27-member delegation of media representatives from countries such as Fiji, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, and Malaysia participated in a meeting at Kharvel Bhawan as part of the 79th Know India Program (KIP). The event, coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs and Odisha’s Home Department, focused on preparations for the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), scheduled in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10, 2024.

The meeting, chaired by Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, showcased the state’s cultural heritage, industrial achievements, and tourism potential. Discussions emphasized Odisha’s vision to engage the overseas Indian community in its developmental goals, aligning with the broader aim of a developed Odisha by 2036 and a developed India by 2047.

Satyabrat Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, detailed the event schedule, which will feature cultural celebrations such as the Rajarani Music Festival, Mukteswar Dance Festival, and Adivasi Mela.

As part of their tour, the delegation visited notable sites, including the Mukteswar Temple, Dhauli Shanti Stupa, and Boyanika, immersing themselves in Odisha’s cultural richness. A visit to the World Skill Center highlighted the state’s significant strides in skill development and employment generation, earning the delegation’s commendation.

Chief Secretary Ahuja emphasized the importance of such international engagement in promoting Odisha’s initiatives globally and expressed hope that the delegation’s visit would enhance international awareness about the state’s developmental efforts.

Preparations for PBD 2024 are in full swing, with plans to host international participants on guided tours to iconic locations such as the Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Sun Temple in Konark, and Chilika Lake. Odisha’s beaches, sanctuaries, and renowned handicrafts will also be spotlighted during the event.

The media representatives lauded Odisha’s progress, particularly in infrastructure, tourism, and skill development, and expressed admiration for the state’s proactive approach to showcasing its potential on a global platform.

The meeting saw participation from senior officials, including Development Commissioner Anu Garg and representatives from various departments. Tomorrow, the delegation is scheduled to visit Kalinga Stadium to explore Odisha’s world-class sports facilities, further cementing the state’s reputation as a hub of excellence.
