Odisha Govt Undertakes Review, Decides to Withdraw 48,018 Cases Against Tribals

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the Home Department, Excise Department, and Forest and Environment Department in Odisha conducted a comprehensive review of cases against tribals in the state, following the directive of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

During the review meeting held on Wednesday, it was decided that a total of 48,018 cases related to forest and deforestation across these three departments would undergo scrutiny for potential withdrawal.

Out of the identified cases, 36,581 fall under the jurisdiction of the Excise Department, 9,846 are under the purview of the Home Department, and 1,591 cases are linked to the Forest and Environment Department. The withdrawal of these cases aims not only to address the concerns of the tribal community but also to alleviate the burden on the courts and the judicial system.

This initiative reflects the Odisha government’s commitment to a fair and just approach while considering legal matters involving tribal populations. As the cases undergo thorough examination, the decision to withdraw them is expected to contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the state’s legal processes.
