Odisha Govt Sanctions ₹2.57 Crore for Habisiyalis to Observe Kartik Brata in Puri

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has approved an outlay of ₹2.57 crore for facilitating the observance of Kartik Brata by habisiyalis (devotees) during the holy Hindu month of Kartik, which begins on October 18, 2024. The announcement was made by Odia Language, Literature & Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Tuesday.

Minister Suraj assured that, in addition to the financial allocation, all necessary arrangements will be in place to ensure a safe and comfortable stay for the habisiyalis in Puri, where they traditionally observe the month-long Kartik Brata. “The government is committed to providing all facilities for the devotees, including accommodation at various habisiyali centers, opportunities for the darshan of Lord Jagannath, the serving of Mahaprasad, and the organization of Bhajan-Kirtan and other cultural programs,” the Minister stated.

Special attention will be given to streamline the logistics for the habisiyalis during their stay, ensuring they do not face any inconvenience during this sacred month. The arrangements will also include transportation for the darshan of Lord Jagannath, the deployment of volunteers, and the maintenance of law and order.

The government will also focus on ensuring sanitation, drinking water, and electricity supply at the designated centers. With a significant influx of pilgrims expected in Puri during Kartik, authorities will take additional measures to manage the increased footfall effectively.
