
Bhubaneswar: As Cyclone Dana approaches, the Odisha government has ordered the closure of schools in 14 districts expected to be impacted by the severe storm. Schools in Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh, and Cuttack will remain closed from October 23 to 25, as per a notification issued by the Special Relief Commissioner.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the low-pressure system over the east-central Bay of Bengal will intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23, with winds expected to reach speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph. The cyclone is likely to make landfall between Puri and Sagar Island on the night of October 24 and early morning of October 25.
