Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to advance women empowerment, the Odisha government, in collaboration with the central government, has honored 1 lakh self-help group (SHG) members as “Lakhpati Didis” under the ambitious Lakhpati Didi programme. This recognition celebrates the exceptional contribution of these women to entrepreneurship and community development.
The Lakhpati Didi programme aims to support entrepreneurial women by offering capacity-building training, financial assistance, and market linkages to enhance their income and socio-economic status. The SHG members were awarded certificates during a live broadcast event in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated 11 lakh new “Lakhpati Didis” across India.
For the financial year 2024-25, the programme has set a target to empower 16 lakh women as Lakhpati Didis. This initiative has spurred the social and economic development of women in Odisha, accelerating their journey toward financial independence and entrepreneurship.
