Odisha Govt Extends Hockey India Sponsorship Until 2036

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced an extension of its sponsorship for Hockey India for three additional years, extending the support until 2036. This decision was revealed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi following a meeting with the Hockey India delegation at the State Guest House on Friday.

Hockey India President Padma Dilip Tirkey and Secretary General Bholanath Singh met with CM Majhi to discuss the ongoing partnership and the future of hockey in Odisha. During the meeting, both officials acknowledged Odisha’s unique global identity in the sport and its significant contributions to the development of the Indian hockey team. They pledged continued cooperation with the Odisha government to further develop hockey in the state.

Chief Minister Majhi stated that in celebration of the centenary of the formation of a separate Odisha state in 2036, the government will extend its sponsorship of Hockey India from 2033 for an additional three years. He assured that the state government will continue to provide full support for the development of hockey.

The Odisha government has been a key sponsor of the Indian hockey team since 2018. Initially, the previous government announced a 10-year sponsorship starting from 2023. This latest extension underscores Odisha’s commitment to the sport and its dedication to fostering talent and infrastructure for hockey.

Minister Suryabanshi Suraj highlighted that the Chief Minister’s decision is a testament to the passion and enthusiasm of the people of Odisha towards hockey. The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary P.K. Jena, Sports Secretary Vineel Krishna, and other senior officials.
