Bhubaneswar: With Odisha reeling under an intense heatwave, the state government is actively considering shifting school timings to morning hours to safeguard students from extreme temperatures.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond stated that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is likely to implement morning classes soon. A formal discussion will be held with the Revenue and Disaster Management Department before making a final decision on rescheduling school hours.
Odisha has been witnessing a sharp rise in temperatures, with several districts recording above-normal levels. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of further temperature increases in the coming weeks, raising concerns about student safety during school hours. Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can pose serious health risks, prompting authorities to review existing schedules.
The state has previously adopted morning school timings during peak summer months to mitigate the impact of heatwaves on students. The final decision on implementing morning classes is expected soon, considering the worsening weather conditions.
