Odisha Govt Boosts Rural Development with 1,542 New Agricultural Cooperatives

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to strengthen the cooperative sector and support rural communities, the Odisha government has established 1,542 new Primary Agricultural Cooperatives (PACS) and Large Tribal Multipurpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS). These cooperatives aim to empower farmers and marginalized groups through collective efforts and economic support.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the operationalization of these cooperatives, marking a major step towards promoting rural development. To facilitate their launch, the state government will provide seed funding of ₹5 lakh to each of the newly formed PACS and LAMPCS.

The initiative comes with a total allocation of ₹76.80 crore, earmarked as capital for these cooperatives. This financial support is expected to enhance their functionality and contribute to the overall growth of the cooperative sector in Odisha.

The formation of PACS and LAMPCS is part of the state government’s broader strategy to promote cooperative farming and provide economic assistance to vulnerable communities. By focusing on collective efforts, these cooperatives aim to address the challenges faced by farmers and improve livelihoods in rural areas.

Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the transformative potential of this initiative, highlighting its role in fostering economic resilience among farmers and tribal populations. “This step underscores our commitment to empowering rural communities and ensuring inclusive growth,” he said.

The establishment of these cooperatives aligns with the state’s efforts to bolster agricultural productivity, encourage sustainable farming practices, and uplift the socio-economic conditions of Odisha’s rural population.
