Odisha Govt Approves 2,500 Additional Home Guard Posts to Reinforce State Police

Bhubaneswar: Taking a major step toward enhancing internal security and law enforcement support, the Odisha government has approved the creation of 2,500 new Home Guard posts, significantly expanding the state’s auxiliary police force.

With this decision, announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday, the total number of sanctioned Home Guard positions will increase from 17,675 to 20,175.

The move is part of the state government’s broader strategy to strengthen policing infrastructure and improve public safety across Odisha. According to officials, the additional manpower will assist the regular police force in managing law and order, disaster response, and traffic control more effectively.

This development follows Chief Minister Majhi’s earlier announcement regarding a major recruitment drive in the police department. As part of that plan, the state will create nearly 12,000 new posts in various divisions of the Odisha Police, including specialized and technical wings.
