Odisha Government Greenlights Establishment of 11 Cancer Care Units

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance cancer care services in Odisha, the state government has given the green light to establish 11 comprehensive cancer care units at various healthcare facilities across the state. This ambitious initiative aims to bolster cancer treatment and support infrastructure within the next two years.

In a meeting, the Odisha Cabinet approved a substantial budget of Rs 1001.14 crore for the comprehensive expansion of cancer care services statewide. These funds will be channelled towards setting up state-of-the-art cancer care units at the following locations: Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), VIMSAR at Burla, SLN Medical College and Hospital at Koraput, MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College and Hospital at Bhawanipatna, BB Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir, PRM Medical College and Hospital at Baripada, FM Medical College and Hospital at Balasore, Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital in Keonjhar, Government Medical College and Hospital at Talcher, and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, as confirmed by Chief Secretary PK Jena.

Each of these cancer care units is slated to be equipped with 50 to 100 beds, as well as top-notch facilities, including operation theatres, ICUs, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and palliative care units. This concerted effort is aimed at ensuring that patients receive comprehensive and effective treatment, catering to their specific needs and requirements.

To complement these state-of-the-art facilities, the government has also taken the initiative to create specialized posts for qualified specialists, super-specialists, and technical staff. This strategic step will ensure that the cancer care units have the necessary workforce and expertise to deliver optimal medical services to those in need.
