Odisha Celebrates ‘Ama Poshak Ama Parichaya’ Day with Enthusiastic Participation Across State

Bhubaneswar: People across Odisha came together in large numbers to celebrate “Ama Poshak Ama Parichaya” (Our Attire, Our Identity) Day, proudly donning traditional handloom attire as part of the ongoing Odia Pakhya being observed from April 1 to 14.

Organised under the aegis of the Odia Language Literature and Culture Department, the celebration on its second day witnessed enthusiastic participation from rural areas to urban centres, including Bhubaneswar. The event highlighted handloom as a symbol of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.

At Lok Seva Bhawan and various government offices, officials and staff members embraced traditional attire, reinforcing the campaign’s message. Across districts, thematic discussions on “Handloom and Weaving Industry of Odisha” were organised, emphasising the importance of preserving and promoting the state’s weaving traditions.

Exhibitions showcasing handicrafts and traditional art forms, including Pattachitra, drew attention from the public, especially the younger generation. Decorative displays featuring Jhoti, Chita, and Muruja further enhanced the festive atmosphere. Members of weavers’ and artisans’ cooperative societies were also felicitated for their contributions.

Adding to the celebrations, youth, students, and members of voluntary organisations actively participated by sharing selfies in traditional attire on the Odia Pakhya website and downloading digital certificates, reflecting widespread public engagement.

The festivities will continue with April 3 also being observed as “Ama Poshak Ama Parichaya” Day. On April 4, the School and Mass Education Department will organise “Khadi Chuan and Pravesh Utsav,” while the Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Department will run a campaign promoting the use of Odia language in nameplates.
