Bhubaneswar: Odisha has received special recognition from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, for achieving the highest number of reforms under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0.
The recognition was conferred as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Awards 2026 on the occasion of World Habitat Day. Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu presented the honour at an event in New Delhi.
The award recognises Odisha’s efforts to introduce institutional reforms and improve the efficiency, transparency and delivery of urban housing schemes across the state.
Welcoming the recognition, Odisha Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the honour reflected the collective efforts of government officials, Urban Local Bodies and other stakeholders involved in strengthening urban housing delivery.
“Being recognised for achieving the highest number of reforms under PMAY-U 2.0 reflects our commitment to building a more efficient, transparent and people-centric housing system,” Mahapatra said.
He added that the recognition would encourage the state to intensify its efforts towards the goal of ‘Housing for All’ and ensure that every eligible urban household has access to a dignified, secure and safe home.
24,625 houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0
Odisha has sanctioned 24,625 houses under PMAY-U 2.0, while the state secured the No. 1 position nationally in house completions between March 2025 and March 2026.
The achievement is being seen as a reflection of the state’s continued efforts to combine institutional reforms with effective implementation and faster delivery of urban housing.
The award was received on behalf of Odisha by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Chanchal Rana and Additional Secretary-cum-Director, Odisha Urban Housing Mission, Subhananda Mohapatra.
The state government said the recognition was the result of the combined efforts of officials, Urban Local Bodies and beneficiary families who have contributed to translating policy reforms into tangible outcomes on the ground.
With the latest recognition, Odisha has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no eligible urban household is left without a safe and secure home.
The state said the achievement also underlines its broader focus on developing inclusive, resilient and liveable cities, where citizens can access better housing and an improved quality of life.
The recognition is being positioned as another milestone towards the vision of Viksit Odisha, while contributing to the larger national goal of Viksit Bharat—an inclusive, prosperous and self-reliant India.
