Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has officially declared September 9 as a public holiday in honor of the Nuakhai Festival, one of Odisha’s most significant cultural celebrations.
While Nuakhai will be observed on September 8, which falls on a Sunday, the state government has decided to extend the holiday to the following day. As a result, September 9 will be a holiday for all state government offices, magisterial courts, and educational institutions across the state.
Nuakhai, an agricultural festival celebrating the harvest season, holds immense importance in western Odisha, bringing families together to offer prayers for prosperity and well-being. The additional holiday will allow citizens to continue their celebrations and participate in the festivities with their loved ones.
