
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has confirmed 30 sunstroke deaths in the state so far this season, as extreme summer temperatures continue to take a toll on the population.
The Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) reported that a total of 147 alleged sunstroke death cases have been recorded during this summer. Of these, 30 cases have been confirmed as sunstroke-related, while 20 cases were found to be due to other causes. The remaining 97 cases are currently pending investigation by the district collectors.
“As of June 2, 2024, a total of 141 alleged sunstroke death cases have been reported by the collectors, out of which 26 have been confirmed as due to sunstroke and 8 have been ruled out as sunstroke-related,” the SRC’s office stated in a press release.
In the past 24 hours alone, six new alleged sunstroke death cases have been reported. Among these, four deaths have been confirmed as caused by sunstroke, while twelve cases pending with the districts have been determined not to be sunstroke-related.
The SRC’s office emphasized the ongoing efforts to thoroughly investigate all reported cases to ensure accurate reporting and appropriate response measures.
The cumulative data for the current summer season shows that out of the 147 alleged sunstroke death cases reported, 30 have been confirmed, 20 have been ruled out as sunstroke-related, and 97 cases remain under inquiry.
