Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Twin City region, focusing on traffic decongestion and the city’s integrated development. The high-level meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan with senior ministers and top bureaucrats in attendance.
During the review, several major proposals were discussed under the Works Department’s urban development initiative. Among the standout projects is an elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan, expected to provide a vital high-speed link through one of the city’s busiest routes. Also on the agenda were the construction of a new road along the Daya West Canal, from Patia Station Chhak to Suanga Mouza, and the widening of the Sundarpada-Jatni road to accommodate growing traffic volumes.
Plans for three new flyovers at Kalpana Chhak, Museum, and Shishu Bhawan Chhak, along with an underpass at AG Chhak, also featured prominently in the discussions. These are designed to eliminate key traffic bottlenecks and improve overall mobility across the capital.
Another significant initiative under progress is a left parallel road connecting the Institute of Mathematics to Ekamra Kanan via Pathargadia, Utkal Hospital, and Rail Vihar. Additionally, three right access roads will be developed from Damana to Press Chhak, Kalarahanga to Barimunda, and Kelucharan Park to Barimunda, enhancing intra-city connectivity.
The government has also proposed the construction of a new inner ring road that will facilitate smooth vehicular flow around the city and reduce congestion in the core urban zones.
Expressing confidence in the roadmap, Chief Minister Majhi said, “These projects will not only address traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar but also add to the city’s overall aesthetic and urban appeal. A well-planned road network is key to the growth of a modern capital.”
In a significant social commitment, it was decided that around 366 families who will be displaced due to the execution of these projects will be rehabilitated with appropriate housing and financial assistance.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Works, Law, and Excise Prithviraj Harichandan; Minister of Housing and Urban Development Krushna Chandra Mahapatra; Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja; Development Commissioner Anu Garg; Principal Secretary of Works Department Sanjay Kumar Singh; Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Usha Padhee; Principal Secretary of Finance Department Saswat Mishra; Police Commissioner S. Devadatta Singh; and other senior officials.
