Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed the Water Resources Department to be fully prepared for managing potential flood situations during the upcoming monsoon season. In a review meeting with department officials, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the state’s residents.
Following the meeting, Anu Garg, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, briefed the media on the directives issued by the Chief Minister. She stated that Chief Minister Majhi has emphasized the need to strengthen river embankments across the state. Weak embankments identified in earlier assessments will be closely monitored, and immediate steps will be taken to repair any potholes.
“Tahsildars and Water Resources Department engineers are collaborating closely to reinforce these embankments,” Garg said. She further mentioned that mock drills will be conducted at all dams to ensure readiness in case of flooding.
In addition to these measures, the Chief Minister has ordered that the flood control cell operate around the clock from now on, ensuring constant vigilance and prompt response to any arising situations.
