Odisha CM Inaugurates New Campus of Odia University in Satyabadi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the new campus of Odia University in Satyabadi, Puri district, marking a significant milestone for the linguistic and cultural heritage of the state.

During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Patnaik expressed his pride in the accomplishments of the Odia community, highlighting the recent inauguration of the Puri Parikrama project and the Odia University campus. He declared this period as a time of glory for the entire Odia community and emphasized the importance of encouraging the creation of literature rooted in Odia culture, lifestyle, and traditions.

Satyabadi, described as the cradle of the Odia Renaissance, holds historical significance as the workplace of Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu. Patnaik paid homage to Adi poet Sarla Das and those who dedicated themselves to safeguarding and promoting the Odia language.

The Chief Minister underscored Odisha’s distinction as the country’s first linguistic state, praising the ancient and classical status of the Odia language. He urged increased efforts to showcase Odia literature globally, kindle interest in the language among the youth, and enhance its presence on social media. The Chief Minister stressed the need for intensified research on the Odia language.

Higher Education Minister Atanu Sabyasachi acknowledged Odia University as a significant contribution by the Chief Minister to the protection of Odia language and identity. He highlighted the enthusiasm among Odia people residing abroad who have a deep love for the language and literature, expressing excitement about Odia University.

Odia University Professor Savita Pradhan and Higher Education Secretary Arvind Agarwal also addressed the gathering. The Chancellor Rashmirekha Das delivered the vote of thanks.

The foundation stone for Odia University at Satyabadi was laid by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on October 9, 2018. The first phase of the international education center, covering an area of 9.60 acres, was inaugurated during the ceremony. The campus boasts modern architecture and technology, featuring classrooms, a library, three hostels, Radhakund Pool, cafeteria, and other facilities, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the Odia language and culture.
