Odisha CM Commends Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police for Service Excellence on 17th Raising Day

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday hailed the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police for setting new benchmarks in policing, community engagement, and public service. Speaking at the 17th Raising Day celebrations of the Commissionerate Police, the Chief Minister praised the force for maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and efficiently managing crime and traffic issues across the twin cities.

The event, held at the 7th Battalion premises in Bhubaneswar, was a vibrant showcase of the police force’s achievements over the past year. Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi said the Commissionerate Police had earned a special place among urban police forces in India through their professionalism, commitment, and people-friendly approach.

Referring to the wide range of high-profile events hosted in Bhubaneswar in recent months, the Chief Minister lauded the police for providing seamless security arrangements that brought Odisha national and international recognition. “Odisha has emerged as a key player in India’s journey toward development, and the police have a vital role to play in ensuring peace and stability to support this growth,” he said.

CM Majhi recalled the recent DGP-IGP Conference held in Bhubaneswar, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the need for strategic reforms in areas like counter-terrorism, cybercrime, and coastal and urban policing. He urged the Commissionerate Police to rise to these emerging challenges with the full backing of the state government.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the current government is one “for the people” and reminded the police to remain accessible, empathetic, and just. He called for heightened sensitivity while addressing public grievances, especially in marginalized communities and urban slums, and encouraged officers to foster trust by acting as true friends of the people.

Highlighting the state’s growing focus on tackling cybercrime, CM Majhi said cyber police stations have been set up in every district and equipped with modern technological tools. He assured that further upgrades in technical capacity and training would be implemented soon.

As part of efforts to strengthen the police force’s operational capabilities, the Chief Minister inaugurated 84 new F-type quarters at the Bhubaneswar Reserve Police Line and 28 D-type quarters at Badagada police station. The event also saw the felicitation of several officers and personnel for exemplary service, followed by a cultural program celebrating the force’s achievements.

Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania reflected on the 17-year journey of the Commissionerate Police, noting that the force has built a reputation for effective crime resolution and community-oriented policing. He cited a recent case in which a kidnapped child was rescued and reunited with his blind mother, which earned praise and boosted public trust in the police.

“The Commissionerate Police have always worked in step with the people, and under the leadership of our Chief Minister, we will continue striving for a safer and more secure society,” the DGP said.

Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh welcomed the guests and emphasized the force’s commitment to smart policing and citizen-first service.
