Odisha CM Calls for Strategic Roadmap to Meet Growing Power Demand by 2029-30

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed state officials to draft a comprehensive roadmap for enhancing power generation, transmission, and distribution to meet the projected electricity demand by 2029-30. This directive came during a high-level review meeting on the state’s electricity supply system.

During the discussion, Chief Minister Majhi stressed that reliable and uninterrupted power supply is crucial for Odisha’s approximately one crore electricity consumers. With the state’s peak power demand anticipated to reach 10,000 megawatts by 2029-30, he underscored the urgency of developing necessary infrastructure, including new primary substations and expansion of 33 KV and 11 KV lines, to support this increase.

The meeting also covered upgrades for existing 33/11 KV feeders and the installation of high-efficiency transformers to ensure optimal energy distribution. To maintain Odisha’s power surplus, the Chief Minister directed officials to prioritize adequate budget allocations for infrastructure improvements and the swift resolution of consumer grievances. He further highlighted the importance of focusing on renewable energy, building disaster-resistant power infrastructure, and hiring skilled personnel to support these efforts.

Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister KV Singh Deo, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary Nikunj Bihari Dhal, Principal Secretary Hemant Sharma, and other senior officials participated in the meeting, reiterating the state government’s commitment to achieving a reliable and future-ready power supply for Odisha’s growing needs.
