Odisha Celebrates Birth Anniversary of Freedom Fighter Maa Ramadevi

Bhubaneswar: The Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, in collaboration with the Odisha Sahitya Akademi, today celebrated the birth anniversary of Maa Ramadevi, honouring the life and legacy of one of Odisha’s most revered freedom fighters and social reformers.

Odia Language, Literature & Culture Minister Surjyabanshi Suraj attended the programme as Chief Guest and paid rich tribute to Maa Ramadevi’s unparalleled contribution to India’s independence movement.

“Maa Ramadevi’s life was the finest example of simple living and high thinking. Throughout her journey, she embraced the principles of swadeshi and dedicated herself to the cause of freedom and social upliftment. Her ideals continue to inspire generations, and I am confident that today’s youth will draw strength from her values to help build Vikshit Odisha by 2036,” the Minister said.

Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, the Guest of Honour, highlighted her pivotal role in championing Swaraj, women’s empowerment and social justice. “Maa Ramadevi became the voice of the marginalised and played a transformative role in strengthening women’s participation in Odisha’s social and political landscape,” he noted.

Renowned writer Pradyumna Satpathy, in his address, said that Maa Ramadevi’s life mission and humanitarian spirit remain an inspiration not just for Odisha but for women across the nation.

The event also saw insightful reflections on her life and contributions by Dr. Bijay Ketan Upadhyay, Secretary of the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department, and Deba Prasad Dash, Special Secretary of the Department.
