Odisha Cabinet Approves Rs 562 Crore for Biju Patnaik Aviation Centre in Dhenkanal

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, granted approval for an allocation of Rs 562 crore towards the establishment of the Biju Patnaik Aviation Centre (BPAC) in Birasal, Dhenkanal district. The initiative aims to fulfill the vision of the late Biju Patnaik, the renowned aviator and former Chief Minister of Odisha.

The comprehensive aviation training center at Birasal Airstrip will encompass facilities for pilot training, simulator training, cabin crew training, and various other skilled training programs related to the aviation sector. The approval underscores Odisha’s commitment to becoming a hub for skilled aviation professionals.

In line with the Civil Aviation Policy (2022) of the state, the upgrade of the Government Aviation Training Institute (GATT) to the Biju Patnaik Aviation Centre represents a significant leap forward for the aviation sector in Odisha. The state, once this project is implemented, is poised to emerge as a key player in the aviation industry, creating a talent pool for the nation and the region.

The demand for pilots in the aviation industry is on the rise, and India is experiencing substantial growth. To address this need, the BPAC project is designed to train approximately 500 professionals annually. This initiative has the potential to reshape the aviation sector in the country.

Beyond its impact on the aviation industry, the establishment of BPAC is expected to stimulate the local economy. Increased tourism, demand for hospitality services, and opportunities for local businesses are anticipated outcomes. The project aligns with the “Skilled in Odisha” initiative, providing significant opportunities for the youth of the state to participate as professionals in the thriving aviation sector.
