Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet today approved the New State Sector Scheme, “Goal for Management and Treatment of Animals” (GOMATA), under the Animal Resources Development (ARD) sector. This scheme, set to run from 2024-25 to 2026-27, has a total budget allocation of ₹342.66 crore and aims to enhance veterinary services across the state.
GOMATA will provide comprehensive veterinary care, including doorstep delivery of services, treatment, vaccination, disease control, and surveillance. The scheme is expected to cover the annual vaccination of approximately 2.5 crore animals and treatment of 1.3 crore livestock. By increasing accessibility to veterinary care, the initiative will support the health and productivity of Odisha’s livestock, benefiting farmers and rural communities.
In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved the sub-scheme “Poultry Development” under the umbrella scheme “Prani Sampad Samruddhi Yojana (PSSY).” This sub-scheme will be implemented over five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29, with a budget allocation of ₹1,031.19 crore. Targeting 3,73,928 farmers, including members of women’s self-help groups (WSHGs), the initiative aims to significantly boost meat and egg production in the state. Once in place, the sub-scheme is expected to produce an additional 95.58 thousand metric tons of meat per year and increase egg production by 5.5 lakh eggs daily.
