Odisha Cabinet Allocates Rs. 1412.79 Crore for Heritage and Tourism Development Scheme

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to boost the preservation and revitalization of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, the State Cabinet approved a budget of Rs. 1412.79 Crore for the implementation of the “Integrated Development of Heritage & Monuments and Tourist Destination (IDHMTD) scheme” spanning from 2020-21 to 2026-27.

Launched in the financial year 2020-21, the primary objective of the scheme is to safeguard and rejuvenate heritage monuments and temples, showcasing the unique character of Odisha. The initiative aims to foster integrated development, creating an aesthetically appealing, accessible, informative, and secure environment. This holistic approach includes the enhancement of public facilities and infrastructure. A total of 159 projects have been identified under the scheme, with an estimated cumulative cost of Rs. 1412.79 Crore.

The State Cabinet’s approval underscores the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive and sustainable tourism by preserving the historical and cultural treasures of Odisha. The allocated funds will be utilized over the seven-year period, from 2020-21 to 2026-27, ensuring a comprehensive and phased implementation of the IDHMTD scheme.
