Bhubaneswar: Strengthening its push towards a resilient and technology-driven power sector, the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited on Monday operationalised a cutting-edge Power System Simulation Laboratory at its Power Training Centre (PTC) in Chandaka.
The facility was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who highlighted the importance of advanced infrastructure in ensuring efficient power transmission and meeting the state’s growing energy needs. Senior officials, including OPTCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, were present on the occasion.
The newly established laboratory is equipped with sophisticated simulation technologies that will allow engineers to replicate real-time grid conditions, analyse system performance, and study fault scenarios. This is expected to significantly enhance planning capabilities, improve grid stability, and support the seamless integration of renewable energy sources into the transmission network.
Officials said the facility would play a crucial role in strengthening operational preparedness by enabling engineers to test and refine strategies before actual implementation, thereby reducing risks and improving efficiency.
Speaking at the event, Singh Deo noted that a strong transmission backbone is essential for Odisha’s development and said the laboratory would contribute to ensuring reliable, round-the-clock power supply across sectors.
OPTCL CMD Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma said the lab would serve as a hub for capacity building and innovation, offering hands-on training and supporting research-driven solutions to emerging challenges in the power sector.
