Odia woman runs a marathon wearing Sambalpuri Saree

Bhubaneswar: Madhusmita Jena from Odisha ran in a marathon clad in a beautiful Sambalpuri Saree.

A high school teacher in Manchester, she participated in the 42.5 km Manchester Marathon 2023 in the UK. She completed the marathon in 4 hours and 50 minutes.

A native of Kusupur in Kendrapada district, she is an active member of the North West England Odia community. Madhusmita has been participating in marathons and ultra-marathons across the globe.

“People have this notion that women cannot run in a saree. I have proved them wrong by completing the marathon,” shared Madhusmita.
