OCCL Charts Bold Path Forward at 63rd Foundation Day Celebration in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Celebrating over six decades of engineering excellence, the Odisha Construction Corporation Ltd. (OCCL) marked its 63rd Foundation Day with a visionary workshop titled “Vision OCCL @ 2036 and Vision OCCL @ 2047” at the World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar. The event brought together top officials, engineers, and thought leaders to reflect on the organization’s achievements and outline a transformative roadmap for its future.

Presiding over the celebration, Anu Garg, IAS, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Odisha and Chairperson of OCCL, commended the corporation for its enduring commitment to infrastructure development. Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, she emphasized the need for OCCL to integrate mechanical expertise in niche operational areas and raise the quality of its work to compete at the national level.

Garg noted that OCCL’s reputation for quality has enabled it to become increasingly self-sustainable, executing infrastructure projects not just for the Water Resources Department—its parent agency—but also across other departments within Odisha and beyond. “The corporation must now aim for a broader footprint, competing with leading construction organizations in other states,” she said.

Er. Bibhuti Bhusan Dash, Managing Director of OCCL, opened the event with a detailed presentation tracing the corporation’s journey since its inception in 1962. He highlighted OCCL’s vital role in the development of Odisha’s irrigation, power, industrial, road, and building infrastructure, and its evolution into a cornerstone of the state’s growth.

The workshop served as a think-tank session to forge a dynamic vision for OCCL’s future. A panel of eminent experts shared their insights, including Dr. C.S. Padhi, Engineer-in-Chief, Water Resources; Er. Ashok Basa, Vice-President, World Federation of Engineering Organizations; Er. Asim Kumar Mohapatra, former Managing Director of OCCL; Er. Bibhuti Bhusan Biswal, Vice-Chancellor of Odisha University of Technology and Research; Prof. Sarat Panda of IIT Bhubaneswar; and Dr. Bharati Mishra, Professor of Computer Science at IIIT Bhubaneswar.

Following the expert presentations, a lively brainstorming session engaged senior engineers and administrators from the Department of Water Resources, including EICs, Chief Engineers, and Additional Chief Engineers, as well as members of OCCL. The discussions focused on strategic initiatives to boost OCCL’s national standing, enhance innovation, and ensure sustainable growth.

As OCCL looks ahead to its centenary milestones in 2036 and 2047, the 63rd Foundation Day celebration not only honored its past achievements but also reaffirmed its commitment to driving infrastructure excellence in Odisha and across India.

Founded in 1962, OCCL is a Government of Odisha undertaking that has played a pivotal role in shaping the state’s infrastructure landscape. Its legacy includes successful completion of major projects across multiple sectors, significantly contributing to Odisha’s development and prosperity.
