Patna: In a political maneuver that reshaped Bihar’s political landscape, Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Nitish Kumar took the oath as Chief Minister for an unprecedented ninth term. This move followed his decision to dissolve the Cabinet and exit the ‘Mahagathbandhan,’ reuniting with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar presided over the swearing-in ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Patna, administering the oath to Nitish Kumar. Joining him were Bihar BJP Chief Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, who were appointed as Deputy Chief Ministers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the triumvirate. “I want to congratulate Nitish Kumar for becoming the chief minister, and Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha for becoming deputy chief ministers of Bihar,” said PM Modi. He expressed confidence in the newly-formed NDA government’s dedication to the state’s development and the fulfillment of its people’s aspirations.
BJP National President J.P. Nadda attended the swearing-in ceremony, which unfolded just before the upcoming general elections. Analysts predict that this BJP-JD-U alliance could provide a strategic advantage to the saffron party in securing a robust performance in Bihar’s 40 Lok Sabha seats.
