New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, took to social media to announce a significant allocation of Rs. 718.26 crore for the widening and strengthening of the Daringbadi Ghat section on National Highway-59 in Odisha. The project, encompassing Kandhamal and Ganjam districts, falls under the Annual Plan for the fiscal year 2023-24, covering a total distance of 26.96 km.
Gadkari emphasized the challenges faced by the current narrow carriageway and suboptimal geometrics of the Daringbadi Ghat segment on National Highway-59. These issues often lead to long-route vehicles from western Odisha bypassing the highway. Recognizing the significance of Daringbadi as a prominent tourist destination, especially during the winter season, Gadkari highlighted that the proposed enhancement of this stretch aims to elevate highway standards, enhance safety measures, and ensure all-weather connectivity along National Highway-59.
The allocated funds are earmarked for the comprehensive development of the Daringbadi Ghat section, addressing infrastructural deficiencies and creating a more robust and efficient road network.
