
New Delhi: NHPC Limited, India’s premier organization for hydropower development, has forged a strategic partnership with M/s Ocean Sun, a pioneering Norwegian company specializing in floating solar technology. The collaboration marks a significant step towards exploring innovative solutions for renewable energy generation in India.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on April 29, 2024, paves the way for NHPC and Ocean Sun to jointly demonstrate the latter’s cutting-edge floating solar energy technology. Under the agreement, photovoltaic panels will be mounted on hydro-elastic membranes, offering a unique approach to harnessing solar power.
NHPC, known for its leadership in hydropower development, is expanding its renewable energy portfolio to include solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects. The collaboration with Ocean Sun underscores NHPC’s commitment to sustainable development and the integration of diverse renewable energy sources.
The MoU signing ceremony, held in a hybrid mode, saw the participation of key stakeholders from NHPC and Ocean Sun, along with dignitaries from the Embassy of Norway in New Delhi and the Embassy of India in Norway. Executive Director (Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen) of NHPC, V.R. Shrivastava, and CEO of Ocean Sun, Kristian Tørvold, formalized the agreement, symbolizing a shared vision for advancing renewable energy initiatives.
Ambassador of Norway to India, H.E. Ms. May-Elin Stener, and Ambassador of India to Norway, H.E. Dr. Acquino Vimal, lent their support to the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in driving sustainable development.
