NHAI Collaborates with HLL Lifecare Limited to Strengthen Incident Management System on National Highways
New Delhi: In a significant move to enhance the Incident Management System (IMS) on the National Highways and provide immediate assistance to accident victims, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HLL Lifecare Limited. HLL Lifecare Limited is a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW).
The MoU was signed in the presence of NHAI Chairman, Santosh Kumar Yadav, and Shri Kuruvilla P.C., Associate Vice President & Business Head at HLL Lifecare Limited, along with other senior officials from both organizations.
This collaboration aims to strengthen NHAI’s existing Incident Management System, which includes Ambulances, Route Patrol Vans & Cranes, real-time tracking, and supportive supervision. The partnership is expected to improve response time and facilitate the referral of accident victims to the nearest health facilities, establishing a seamless process for incident management. This includes the operation and management of Trauma Centres/Emergency Stabilization Centers to maximize assistance during the critical golden hour and improve health outcomes.
HLL Lifecare Limited will provide services for comprehensive geo-tagging, mapping, and engagement of health facilities and trauma centers across National Highways, enhancing emergency medical response by linking health facilities with ambulances. The collaboration will also involve creating a blueprint for investment in trauma centers along National Highways.
As part of the agreement, HLL Lifecare Limited will operationalize and manage state-of-the-art ambulance services equipped with improvised ‘Basic Life Support’ at select locations on National Highways. These ambulances will integrate technology for better communication, real-time tracking, and coordination.
The MoU also outlines HLL’s role in training and orienting Toll Plaza Staff on new initiatives, providing basic life support training, and capacity building for Toll Plaza staff to enhance their psychological, behavioral, and soft skills. Health screening for truckers and highway users, including eye tests, tuberculosis screenings, HIV/AIDS tests, and oral cancer screenings at laybys and Wayside Amenities, will be organized. Additionally, a Technical Support Unit will be established to provide supervision and coordination for effective implementation.
This collaboration is set to remain in effect for a period of five years. The partnership between NHAI and HLL Lifecare Limited underscores NHAI’s commitment to improving the Incident Management System and providing timely and efficient assistance to accident victims on National Highways across the country. This initiative is expected to play a vital role in saving lives and ensuring the safety of travelers on the nation’s highways.
