Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s School Admission Register to Grace Gallery at Birthplace Museum in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary on January 23, the Netaji Birthplace Museum in Cuttack’s Odia Bazaar is set to unveil a significant artifact – the admission register of the Protestant European School, now Stewart School. This historical document enlists Netaji at serial number 167, chronicling his primary education from January 8, 1902, to December 31, 1908.

The Stewart School authorities have formally handed over the well-preserved admission register to the officials of the Netaji Birthplace Museum. After meticulous binding, the document is now ready to be showcased in gallery no-1 of the museum, providing a unique glimpse into Netaji’s early academic years.

JP Ray, the curator-in-charge of the Netaji Birthplace Museum, expressed his excitement about the acquisition, highlighting that while records related to Netaji’s schooling at Ravenshaw Collegiate School were already on display, the Stewart School admission register, documenting his primary education, was previously unavailable.

The historic Stewart School admission register will join the array of exhibits on January 23, commemorating Netaji’s birth anniversary. The museum has invested Rs 64 lakh in architectural illumination, executed by the Odisha Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (OSIC).

The illuminated building will be adorned with the tricolour and will dynamically change colours every second, showcasing a cutting-edge technology that continues to function even in rainy conditions. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the Odia Language Literature & Culture department to revitalize and beautify the Netaji Birthplace Museum, creating an immersive experience for visitors.
