Bhubaneswar: Neeraj Chopra, India’s star javelin thrower, soared to victory at the Federation Cup 2024 held at the illustrious Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
In a remarkable display of skill and strength, Neeraj recorded a mighty throw of 82.27 meters, securing the coveted gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event. His stellar performance edged out DP Manu, who managed a commendable 82.06 meters.
Neeraj’s triumph marks a triumphant return to the Federation Cup, having previously clinched gold in the event back in March 2021. His absence from domestic events in India for three years only added to the anticipation surrounding his return, making his victory even sweeter for fans and supporters alike.
However, it was a different tale for Odisha’s own Kishore Jena, whose performance fell short of expectations. Despite his efforts, Kishore’s best throw reached 75.49 meters, leaving him unable to challenge Neeraj’s dominance on the field.
Kishore’s struggle extended beyond the Federation Cup, as evidenced by his recent ninth-place finish in the Doha Diamond League 2024. Nevertheless, with his sights set on the Paris Olympics 2024, Kishore remains determined to overcome these setbacks and make his mark on the international stage.
