National Public Health India Conference 2024 Inaugurated by Union Minister Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel

New Delhi: The inaugural ceremony of the first National Public Health India Conference (NPHICON-2024) took place today in New Delhi, with Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel officiating the opening. The conference, organized by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) under the Directorate General of Health Services, is scheduled from February 23 to 25, 2024.

The distinguished gathering included Dr. V. K. Paul, Member NITI Aayog, as well as senior officials such as Sh. Apurva Chandra, Union Health Secretary, and Prof. Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services (DGHS). The conference aims to provide a comprehensive platform for exchanging experiences, discussing best practices, and addressing public health concerns in India.

Prof. Baghel underscored the significance of the event in shaping public health policies aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India. He praised the NCDC for organizing the conference, recognizing its role in contributing to resilient health policies and interventions.

The minister emphasized the holistic approach to health, stating, “At the heart of our vision for India’s development is the recognition that health is not merely the absence of disease, but a fundamental human right and the cornerstone of sustainable development.”

He acknowledged the immense challenges faced due to India’s large population, rapid urbanization, and growing healthcare needs. However, he also identified unique opportunities to innovate, collaborate, and pave the way for a healthier and more prosperous future.

Dr. V.K. Paul commended the NCDC for its tireless efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic and stressed the importance of India’s health centers in strengthening the healthcare system. He urged researchers to adhere to good methodologies for research, ensuring preparedness for future health emergencies.

Sh. Apurva Chandra, Union Health Secretary, highlighted the conference’s role in supporting policy development and interventions for advancing public health. He extended best wishes to NCDC and all participants for a successful and impactful conference.

The National Public Health India Conference will feature discussions on various topics, including recent public health initiatives, advanced tools and technologies for public health surveillance, one health, disease elimination, and research integrity and ethics. The event aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and the exchange of best practices to build a resilient and healthy nation.

In addition to inaugurating the conference, the attendees launched a revamped NCDC website, a new E-Journal of NCDC, and an Epi-Dis-Phere Public Health Resilience E-Techno-doc containing oral and poster abstracts of presentations at NCDC. The event is expected to provide valuable insights and contribute to evidence-based health policy interventions, especially during crises.
