NABL and CREDAI Join Hands to Elevate Quality Standards in Civil Engineering Projects

New Delhi: In a significant move to bolster quality assurance in India’s construction industry, the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), under the Quality Council of India (QCI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI). The agreement was formalized during CREDAI’s Silver Jubilee celebration on November 25, 2024, in New Delhi, in the presence of Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.

The MoU aims to enhance the reliability and quality of temporary site testing laboratories used in civil engineering projects. These laboratories, crucial for testing materials like aggregates and concrete cubes on construction sites, ensure that construction standards are maintained, leading to safer and more durable structures. The collaboration introduces NABL’s recognition scheme to certify these temporary labs, fostering trust in their accuracy and reliability.

NABL CEO, N. Venkateswaran, and CREDAI President Elect, Shekar G. Patel, signed the MoU, with key stakeholders like QCI Chairman Jaxay Shah, CREDAI Chairman Manoj Gaur, and CREDAI President Boman Irani present at the event.

Addressing the gathering, Jaxay Shah emphasized the transformative impact of this partnership, stating, “This MoU is a major milestone in ensuring the quality and competency of temporary site testing laboratories. By adopting NABL’s recognition scheme, the construction industry will see a significant boost in material reliability, elevating standards across the nation.”

Echoing this sentiment, Venkateswaran remarked, “This collaboration with CREDAI is pivotal in strengthening confidence in the accuracy of test results from temporary site testing laboratories. Our goal is to enhance the integrity of building materials, ensuring that construction projects meet the highest standards of safety and durability.”

The initiative is particularly critical for large-scale civil engineering projects exceeding 50,000 sq. ft., where on-site testing plays a vital role in verifying the quality of materials. By empowering developers to adopt NABL’s Recognition Scheme, the partnership is set to revolutionize construction practices, benefiting both developers and end-users.

This MoU underscores a shared commitment to a future where excellence in construction is not just a goal but a standard, aligning with India’s vision of achieving global benchmarks in infrastructure quality.
