DPIIT and WinZO Join Forces to Propel India’s Gaming Industry Towards Global Leadership

New Delhi: To strengthen India’s position in the global gaming industry, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WinZO, the nation’s largest social gaming and interactive entertainment platform. This collaboration is a pivotal step in creating a thriving ecosystem of startups, innovators, and students while establishing India as a global leader in the $300 billion gaming market.

The partnership seeks to nurture over 2,000 startups and provide mentorship, industry insights, and access to international opportunities. Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the initiative emphasizes fostering ‘Made in India’ intellectual property, empowering startups to produce gaming assets of world-class quality, and driving innovation in interactive technology.

Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Shri Sanjiv Singh, underscored the transformative potential of this collaboration, noting that the agreement aims to address talent gaps by equipping professionals with advanced skills in coding, animation, game design, and development. He emphasized that the partnership would harness the immense potential of India’s gaming sector, projected to grow to $60 billion by 2034, creating over two million jobs.

A centerpiece of this collaboration is the establishment of a Center of Excellence (CoE), which will serve as a launchpad for startups and entrepreneurs. The CoE will focus on workforce development, innovation in monetization strategies, attracting foreign direct investment, and facilitating the manufacturing of interactive technology products. It is also expected to address long-standing challenges in talent acquisition and monetization, crucial for scaling the industry.

WinZO’s Tech Triumph Program, which has already showcased Indian talent on global platforms like the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and Gamescom LATAM, will be further expanded under the partnership. This program will provide greater visibility and opportunities for Indian game developers, cementing India’s reputation as a hub for interactive entertainment.

Shri Singh stated that this collaboration represents a significant milestone in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within India’s gaming industry. He affirmed that the MoU would accelerate the growth of the sector, enhance its competitiveness, and contribute to making India a global leader in interactive entertainment.

With the gaming industry witnessing rapid growth, the DPIIT-WinZO partnership is expected to play a transformative role in positioning India as a dominant force in the global market. By nurturing startups, empowering professionals, and driving technological innovation, this initiative aligns seamlessly with India’s vision of self-reliance and global leadership in interactive technology.
