NAAC to Implement Revolutionary Changes in Accreditation Process

New Delhi: In a groundbreaking move, the Executive Committee of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) convened for its 104th meeting and announced pivotal changes aimed at enhancing the accreditation process for higher education institutions in the country.

Binary Accreditation System:
The committee has decided to implement a Binary Accreditation System within the next four months. This transformative approach signifies a shift from the existing methodology, with a clear distinction between institutions that are either accredited or not accredited. No new applications will be accepted under the present methodology after the four-month transition period. Institutions applying during this period will have the choice to adhere to the current process or opt for the new Binary Accreditation System.

Maturity-Based Graded Levels:
By December 2024, NAAC will introduce Maturity-Based Graded Levels. This novel framework will encourage institutions to aspire to different levels of accreditation based on their maturity in quality education. The levels, ranging from ‘Level 1’ to ‘Level 5,’ aim to motivate institutions to continuously improve and evolve, ultimately reaching the pinnacle of becoming Institutions of Global Excellence for Multi-Disciplinary Research and Education.

Single National Data Platform:
NAAC envisions a robust and transparent system with the introduction of the One National Data Platform. This platform will streamline the handling of institutional data, ensuring integrity and transparency. Based on the Trust and Data Driven principles, the new platform aims to minimize on-site visits for verification, relying on stringent penalties for inaccurate submissions. It will also facilitate customized ranking based on inputs from various stakeholders, including industry, funding agencies, and students.

This transformative overhaul reflects NAAC’s commitment to fostering a culture of quality in higher education and ensuring that the accreditation process aligns with global standards. The new measures aim to simplify and expedite the accreditation process while promoting continuous improvement among educational institutions across the nation.
