Modified KALIA Scholarship Guidelines to Benefit More Students in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A significant enhancement to the KALIA Scholarship is set to broaden its impact on higher education in Odisha. Launched in 2021-22 to provide financial assistance to the children of KALIA beneficiaries pursuing professional/technical education in government institutions, the scholarship’s revised guidelines aim to extend support to a larger number of students. Approved by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Odisha, these modifications are poised to make higher education more accessible and inclusive for deserving individuals across the state.

The KALIA Scholarship will now encompass students undertaking professional/technical courses such as Engineering, Medical, Agriculture & Allied, Nursing, Diploma, and various trades in ITI in both Government and Private Institutions (having AISHE code). It will also cover premier institutions like IIT, NIT, AIIMS, IIM, ICAR, etc.

Key Modifications in the KALIA Scholarship Guidelines:

I. Private Institutes Inclusion: In addition to government institutions, students pursuing technical/professional courses in private institutes within the state, having AISHE code, are now covered under the KALIA Scholarship.

II. Premier Institutes Inclusion: Students enrolling in technical/professional courses in premier institutes, both inside and outside the state, like NIT, IIT, IIM, AIIMS, ICAR, IARI, IISER, NISER, IVRI, CIFE, NDRI, are now eligible for the KALIA Scholarship.

III. PG and Ph.D. Courses: Beyond the existing courses, PG and Ph.D. courses (Professional/Technical) have been included in the scheme. The maximum duration for PG is 2 years, and for Ph.D., it is 4 years, with Ph.D. courses linked to eligible post-graduation courses only in government institutions within the state.

IV. Additional Approved Courses: Professional courses like BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA have been added to the list of approved courses under the KALIA Scholarship.

V. Actual Course Fees: The course fees for students admitted to government institutions will be as per actuals.

VI. Scholarship Amount: The scholarship amount for students studying in private institutes and premier institutions will be released as per the approved rate.

VII. Exclusion of Private Institutions Outside the State: No private institution outside the state is allowed to participate in the KALIA Scholarship.

VIII. Application Period: The KALIA Scholarship portal (https://scholarship.odisha.gov.in) for online applications will be open for students twice a year, first during July/August and second during November/December.
