Mizoram Man Ziona Chana, Head of the World’s Largest Family Dies

Aizawl: Ziona Chana, the head of the world’s largest families with 38 wives, 94 children, 14 daughters-in-law, 33 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild passed away on Sunday. He was 75.

He  has been unwell since June7 and recently was admitted in a private hospital after his health deteriorated.

Ziona who hails from Baktawng village in central Serchhip district, was 17 years old when he married his first wife.

To accommodate his large family, Ziona built a four-storied mansion which has became a major tourist attraction in Baktawng. 

Sharing his condolence on Twitter, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said, “With heavy heart, Mizoram bid farewell to Mr. Zion-a (76), believed to head the world’s largest family, with 38 wives and 89 children. Mizoram and his village at Baktawng Tlangnuam has become a major tourist attraction in the state because of the family. Rest in Peace Sir !”
