Ministry of Labour & Employment Signs MoU with Swiggy to Boost Gig Sector Opportunities

New Delhi: In a move aimed at enhancing employment opportunities in the gig and platform economy, the Ministry of Labour & Employment on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with food delivery platform Swiggy. The partnership will enable real-time integration of Swiggy’s job listings with the National Career Service (NCS) portal, providing increased visibility and access to flexible job opportunities across the country.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Labour & Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Sushri Shobha Karandlaje.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the transformative potential of the partnership. “The NCS portal, with over 1.25 crore active job seekers and 40 lakh registered employers, is already playing a crucial role in workforce mobilization. This collaboration will further expand its reach into the gig economy and empower millions of young job seekers,” he said.

The Minister noted that Swiggy could potentially generate over 12 lakh job opportunities in the next two to three years through this integration. “It’s a win-win model—Swiggy gains access to a broad, job-ready talent pool, while job seekers benefit from verified and timely employment opportunities,” he added.

Under the MoU, Swiggy will list real-time gig roles such as delivery, logistics, and support positions on the NCS portal. An API-based integration will ensure seamless updates, efficient job application tracking, and enhanced user experience.

Swiggy’s Chief of Corporate Affairs, Dinker Vashisht, welcomed the collaboration and emphasized the power of digital entrepreneurship. “This MoU reflects our commitment to inclusive growth and creating meaningful livelihoods. We’re proud to partner with the government in scaling employment in the new-age economy,” he said.

The partnership also aims to promote inclusive hiring, with a focus on youth, women, and those seeking flexible or location-based work. It will support structured onboarding, digital empowerment, and improved awareness of worker welfare schemes.

The Ministry described this as one in a series of upcoming MoUs with private employers and digital platforms, designed to bridge the gap between job seekers and the private sector. The broader goal is to create a digitally empowered, future-ready workforce through public-private collaboration.

The National Career Service portal, launched by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, is envisioned as a one-stop platform for employment, skill development, and career counselling, with a growing capacity for hyperlocal job matching and support for both domestic and international job placements.
