Ministry of Coal Records Impressive Growth in Coal Production and Dispatch for January 2024

New Delhi:  In a significant achievement, the Ministry of Coal has reported a remarkable upswing in coal production for the month of January 2024, reaching 99.73 Million Tonnes (MT). This surpasses the corresponding figures of 90.42 MT recorded in January of the previous year, indicating an impressive growth rate of 10.30%.

Coal India Limited (CIL), a key player in the sector, contributed significantly to this surge, with its production rising to 78.41 MT in January 2024. This marks a noteworthy growth of 9.09% compared to 71.88 MT in January 2023. The cumulative coal production for the fiscal year ’23-24 has seen a commendable leap, reaching 784.11 MT (Provisional), showcasing a robust growth of 12.18% compared to the same period in FY ’22-23.

The dispatch of coal also witnessed a substantial boost in January 2024, reaching 87.37 MT compared to 82.02 MT in January 2023, reflecting a growth rate of 6.52%. Coal India Limited’s dispatch demonstrated outstanding performance, reaching 67.56 MT in January 2024, compared to 64.45 MT in January 2023, with a growth of 4.83%. The cumulative coal dispatch for the fiscal year ’23-24 stood at 797.66 MT (Provisional), showcasing a commendable growth of 10.82% compared to the corresponding period in FY ’22-23.

As of January 31, 2024, the coal stock held by coal companies experienced a notable surge, reaching 70.37 MT. This surge represents an impressive annual growth rate of 47.85%, highlighting the robust performance and efficiency of the coal sector. Concurrently, the coal stock at Thermal Power Plants (TPP), specifically at the identified location of DCB, marked a notable increase to 36.16 MT on the same date, with an annual growth rate of 15.26%.

These statistics underscore the resilience and commitment of the coal sector in meeting the nation’s energy demands. The Ministry of Coal remains dedicated to fostering sustained growth and efficiency within the sector, ensuring a reliable and robust energy supply for the nation.
