Ministries Collaborate to Discuss New Criminal Laws Ensuring Safety of Women and Children

New Delhi: The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), in conjunction with the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), commenced a series of national-level webinars aimed at elucidating the provisions of recently enacted criminal laws: “Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita”, “Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita”, and “Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam”. These laws are pivotal in safeguarding the welfare, safety, and security of women and children across the country.

The inaugural webinar, conducted today in Hindi, featured opening addresses by the Secretaries of MWCD, MoPR, and MoRD, setting the stage for comprehensive sessions led by experts from the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). These sessions meticulously outlined the critical provisions of the new legislative measures. Specialists from MWCD further elaborated on the profound implications of these laws for the benefit of women and children in India.

The event garnered significant participation, with approximately 40 lakh stakeholders from diverse backgrounds joining nationwide. Participants included elected women representatives from Panchayati Raj institutions, members of women’s self-help groups, and various stakeholders representing MWCD, MoRD, and MoPR.

A second webinar, scheduled in English for June 25, 2024, aims to broaden the engagement and dissemination of information across a wider spectrum of society. The enactment of these progressive laws aligns with the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to fortify the legal framework supporting the empowerment of women and children in India.
