MHA Releases ₹ 5858.60 Crore to 14 Flood-Affected States for Disaster Relief

New Delhi: To aid flood-affected states, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has released ₹ 5858.60 crore as a central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). This financial assistance aims to support 14 states hit by heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides during this year’s south-west monsoon.

Among the allocations, Maharashtra received ₹ 1492 crore, Andhra Pradesh ₹ 1036 crore, Assam ₹ 716 crore, Bihar ₹ 655.60 crore, Gujarat ₹ 600 crore, and West Bengal ₹ 468 crore. Other states such as Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, and several northeastern states, including Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura, also received substantial assistance.

These funds come as part of the central government’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the hardships faced by citizens in disaster-hit regions. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the Modi government is working closely with affected states to mitigate the impact of natural calamities.

To ensure effective disaster management, Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) were deployed to states like Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Tripura, Nagaland, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Manipur. These teams conducted on-the-spot assessments of the damage caused by floods and landslides. Further assessments are scheduled in Bihar and West Bengal, which were recently affected by floods. Upon receiving the IMCT reports, additional financial assistance from the NDRF will be considered, following established procedures.

This financial support is part of the broader disaster relief measures undertaken by the central government. So far this year, more than ₹ 14,958 crore has been allocated to 21 states, including ₹ 9044.80 crore from SDRF, ₹ 4528.66 crore from NDRF, and ₹ 1385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 11 states.

In addition to financial assistance, the central government has also extended logistical support, deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, Army personnel, and Air Force resources to assist states in relief and rescue operations.
