Maryul Spamo Clinch Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Title with Stunning Comeback Victory

Leh: In a dramatic showdown, defending champions Maryul Spamo staged a sensational comeback to secure a 3-2 victory over Changla Lamos in the women’s final of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2. Led by captain Padma Chorol’s incredible hat-trick, Spamo overturned a two-goal deficit to retain their title, showcasing the grit and determination that defines Ladakh’s growing ice hockey scene.

Held at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium in Leh, the match unfolded before a packed crowd, reflecting the increasing enthusiasm for ice hockey in the region. Organized in partnership with the UT Administration of Ladakh and the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh, the tournament continues to elevate Ladakh’s status as a hub for winter sports.

The final began with Changla Lamos asserting dominance, as captain Tsewang Chuskit scored in the 4th minute with a stunning wrist shot. In the 11th minute, Chuskit doubled the lead with another brilliant finish, assisted by Disket C Angmo, putting Lamos firmly in control at 2-0. Despite Maryul Spamo’s efforts, they were unable to find the net in the first period, which ended with a minor setback for the Lamos as Sonam Angmo was penalized for foul play.

Maryul Spamo came roaring back in the second period. Captain Padma Chorol narrowed the gap with a spectacular strike in the 27th minute, reigniting her team’s hopes. Ten minutes later, Chorol delivered again, scoring the equalizer and leveling the match at 2-2. The momentum shifted as both teams battled fiercely in the final period.

With time running out and the possibility of a draw looming, Chorol struck her third goal in the 54th minute, completing her hat-trick and sealing a remarkable 3-2 victory for Maryul Spamo.

Captain Padma Chorol expressed her pride in her team’s perseverance, saying, “To lift this trophy is a moment of immense joy for us. Our comeback is a testament to teamwork and determination. We hope this victory inspires young girls across Ladakh to dream big and embrace ice hockey with passion. Special thanks to our coach, Mushtaq Ahmed Giri, for his relentless guidance. This win belongs to everyone who supported us.”

The final began with a ceremonial puck drop by Vikram Singh Malik, Secretary of Sports, UT Ladakh. Local young girls captivated the audience during the break with vibrant dance performances, adding a cultural touch to the event.

As the league gears up for its men’s final, defending champions Kang Sings will face last year’s runners-up, Changthang Shans, in another highly anticipated clash. With Maryul Spamo’s remarkable victory setting the tone, the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2 promises a thrilling conclusion, further cementing its place as a celebration of sport, resilience, and Ladakhi pride.
