Mary Kom Steps Down as Chef de Mission for Paris Olympics

New Delhi: Renowned boxer MC Mary Kom has tendered her resignation from her position as the Chef de Mission for India’s contingent at the upcoming Paris Olympics, citing personal reasons. This decision comes mere weeks after she was appointed to the prestigious role by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

In a letter addressed to IOA President PT Usha, the Union Sports Ministry, and the Sports Authority of India, the Olympic bronze medallist expressed regret over retracting from her commitment but stated that she had no alternative due to personal problems.

Mary Kom’s resignation has thrown the IOA into a challenging situation, with less than 100 days remaining until the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The organization now faces the task of finding a suitable replacement and restarting the entire process of appointing a Chef de Mission.
