All-rounder Marcus Stoinis showcased his prowess with both bat and ball as he guided Lucknow Super Giants to a crucial victory in the IPL, just on the eve of Australia’s T20 World Cup team announcement. Stoinis’ remarkable performance saw him scoring 62 runs and taking a wicket, contributing significantly to Lucknow’s successful chase against Mumbai Indians.
In pursuit of a modest target of 145 set by Mumbai Indians, Stoinis played a pivotal role in Lucknow’s victory, top-scoring in the chase. His 45-ball knock, embellished with seven fours and two sixes, propelled Lucknow to victory with four wickets and four balls to spare.
Despite losing skipper KL Rahul early in the chase, Stoinis held his nerve and anchored the innings brilliantly, ensuring Lucknow’s ascent to the third position on the IPL points table.
Lucknow skipper KL Rahul’s dismissal for 28 came on the heels of being overlooked by India’s selectors for the upcoming T20 World Cup, adding an extra layer of significance to the match.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, faced their seventh loss in ten matches, despite notable performances from Nehal Wadhera and Tim David.
Stoinis’ contributions were not limited to batting alone as he also made an impact with the ball, claiming the crucial wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. Lucknow’s left-arm quick Mohsin Khan also impressed with two wickets, including the dismissal of Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma.
As Australia’s T20 World Cup squad announcement loomed, Stoinis’ stellar performance could not have come at a more opportune time, showcasing his credentials for selection.
