Marathi Web Series ‘Lampan’ Wins Best Web Series (OTT) Award at IFFI 2024

Goa: The Marathi web series Lampan has won the prestigious Best Web Series (OTT) Award at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), celebrated for its compelling storytelling, exceptional performances, and top-notch production values.

Directed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari and based on the works of writer Prakash Narayan Sant, Lampan narrates the story of a dreamy child whose unbounded curiosity takes him on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

This accolade, introduced in the 54th edition of IFFI, underscores the growing influence of OTT platforms in global entertainment. The award recognizes excellence in digital storytelling and comes with a cash prize of ₹10,00,000, shared between the creators and the OTT platform, along with individual certificates for their contribution to the series’ success.

The creators and Sony Liv, the platform that premiered the series, were lauded for delivering an emotionally resonant narrative that highlights rural India’s complexities. Lampan poignantly explores the struggles of a young boy as he navigates his identity within his community, emphasizing themes of self-empowerment and social ties.

Five web series were shortlisted this year for their artistic brilliance, storytelling finesse, technical excellence, and cultural impact, with Lampan emerging as the unanimous winner.

IFFI’s recognition of OTT content reflects its commitment to fostering innovation and nurturing high-quality storytelling in Indian languages. By celebrating content like Lampan, the festival continues to position India as a global hub for digital entertainment.

The award further highlights IFFI’s efforts to incentivize collaborations between creators and platforms, paving the way for a future where Indian digital storytelling reaches new heights of artistic and cultural significance.
