Majhi Flags Off ₹420-Crore Development Drive in Mayurbhanj, Unveils Vision for Transformative Growth

Mayurbhanj: In a major push towards accelerating regional development in northern Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday rolled out a slew of infrastructure and welfare projects worth over ₹420 crore in Mayurbhanj district. The grand event, held at Bisoi, witnessed an enthusiastic public turnout as the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects spanning education, health, water supply, roads, and tribal welfare.

Marking a significant investment in the district’s future, Majhi inaugurated 133 completed projects valued at ₹328 crore and laid the foundation for 52 new ones with an estimated cost of over ₹91 crore. Spread across key blocks like Rairangpur, Kusumi, Bijatala, Bahalda, Jamda, and Tiring, the projects aim to bridge infrastructure gaps and foster inclusive development in some of Odisha’s most underserved regions.

Among the major announcements, the Chief Minister declared the opening of a new +2 college at the Bisoi block headquarters to enhance educational access for tribal and rural youth. He also revealed that the Bisoi Mini Stadium would be named after legendary tribal freedom fighter Dharanidhar Naik, and a statue would be installed to honour his legacy.

Speaking at the public gathering, Majhi described the occasion as a defining moment for Mayurbhanj’s development journey. “This day marks the beginning of a new era. These projects will not only create opportunities but also reaffirm our commitment to building a stronger and more equitable Odisha,” he said.

Highlighting his administration’s performance over the past 11 months, the Chief Minister cited landmark decisions such as unlocking all four gates of the Shree Jagannath Temple, launching the women-focused Subhadra Yojana, and raising the paddy minimum support price to ₹3,100. He noted that under the Subhadra scheme, 17 lakh women have become “Lakhpati Didis,” playing a pivotal role in strengthening the rural economy.

Majhi also spotlighted Odisha’s industrial trajectory, announcing upcoming investments of ₹10,000 crore in Mayurbhanj alone. These industries, he said, would create large-scale employment and stimulate a double-engine growth momentum for the region. “With strong support from the Centre and efficient governance, we are turning vision into action,” he asserted.

Underscoring his government’s people-centric approach, Majhi emphasized that the state administration has been restructured to ensure that citizens’ grievances are addressed directly by their elected representatives. “This is a government that listens, acts, and delivers,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister also unveiled the “36 for 36” initiative—a vision document outlining 36 focused programmes to be achieved by the year 2036. These include ambitious targets in education, healthcare, industry, infrastructure, and basic services like water, electricity, and transport, particularly aimed at empowering Odisha’s marginalized communities.

As part of the day’s programme, Majhi distributed financial aid to beneficiaries, including ex gratia payments, marriage incentives for daughters of workers, and ₹10 lakh grants to women-led self-help groups, further reaffirming the state’s commitment to social security and women’s empowerment.

The event was attended by several top leaders, including Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia, MPs Mamata Mahanta, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, and Nabacharan Majhi, along with local MLAs and government officials. Saraskana MLA Bhadav Hansdah welcomed the gathering, while District Collector Hemakanta Say delivered the vote of thanks, marking the close of a landmark occasion for the region.
