Paris: Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) showcased her prowess in the ring, advancing to the Olympic Games quarterfinals after a decisive victory over Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad.
From the outset, Hofstad, the 2022 World Youth Champion, struggled to find her rhythm as Lovlina leveraged her height advantage to deliver decisive punches. In the opening round, Hofstad attempted to disrupt Lovlina’s momentum with a series of swift punches. However, Lovlina’s strategic jabs and solid right hook ensured she secured the essential points.
As the match progressed into the second round, Lovlina intensified her offense, landing powerful punches on Hofstad’s face. Despite Hofstad’s efforts to stage a comeback in the final round, her attempts were insufficient against Lovlina’s consistent and calculated attacks.
The judges unanimously awarded the victory to Lovlina with a 5-0 score, reflecting her dominance throughout the bout.
A subsequent victory in the quarterfinals would assure Lovlina of a medal, potentially marking her second Olympic medal following her bronze at Tokyo 2020. Lovlina’s performance continues to inspire hope and pride for India, reinforcing her status as one of the country’s top athletes.
