Odisha Launches Yatri Safety App with Shake & Alert, One-Click SOS

Bhubaneswar: Passengers using Odisha Yatri can now access emergency assistance with a shake of their mobile phone, with the State Government launching a dedicated safety module on the platform to make urban and shared mobility safer and more responsive.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the Odisha Yatri Safety App on the occasion of Local Self-Government Day, describing the initiative as a step towards safer, smarter and more citizen-centric urban mobility in the state.

The safety module introduces a ‘Shake & Alert’ feature that allows users to trigger an emergency alert simply by shaking their phone. The feature is designed to help passengers seek assistance quickly when they may be unable to navigate through the app or access an SOS button.

The platform also offers a one-click SOS facility through which passengers can immediately contact the emergency response number 112 and alert their designated emergency contacts. Users can additionally share their live location with trusted contacts, allowing their journey to be monitored in real time.

The safety features are designed for both passengers and drivers, with the government seeking to create a mechanism that remains accessible during stressful or emergency situations.

Other features include quick access to police, ambulance and fire services, audio recording and sharing during emergencies, trusted contact integration and a ‘Mark Ride as Safe’ option to close an alert once the passenger reaches safety. Emergency helpline numbers have also been brought together in one place for faster access.

The initiative is expected to particularly benefit women, senior citizens and other vulnerable passengers by providing them with immediate access to assistance while travelling.

Launching the initiative, Chief Minister Majhi said safe, accessible and dependable mobility is essential for building citizen-friendly and prosperous cities. He emphasised the role of technology in strengthening public confidence and enabling citizens, particularly women, to travel independently and without fear.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a modern urban transport system centred on the safety, dignity and convenience of citizens.

Odisha Yatri Brand Ambassador and actor Archita Sahu urged citizens, particularly women and young people, to use the platform and familiarise themselves with its safety features.

The Odisha Yatri platform has evolved into an integrated mobility service offering ride booking, Ama Bus services, FASTicket spot booking and boating facilities. The addition of the safety module is aimed at further strengthening the platform as a convenient, affordable and secure mobility solution.

Citizens can download or update the Odisha Yatri app to access the new safety features.
