Lorenzo Musetti Reaches First Major Quarterfinal at Wimbledon

London: Italian tennis star Lorenzo Musetti has secured his first major quarterfinal appearance, defeating French lucky loser Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 at Wimbledon on Monday.

Celebrating his 21st birthday, Mpetshi Perricard had entered the match full of confidence, having overcome Sebastian Korda, Yoshihito Nishioka, and Emil Ruusuvuori in earlier rounds, delivering an impressive 105 aces in his first three matches of the tournament.

However, in their inaugural Lexus ATP Head2Head encounter, Musetti, the 25th seed, demonstrated superior skill by breaking Mpetshi Perricard’s serve five times and dominating the baseline rallies. Musetti’s disciplined play was evident in his mere eight unforced errors, compared to Mpetshi Perricard’s 42.

After a two-hour and five-minute battle on Court No. 2, Musetti joined World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals, marking the first time in history that multiple Italian men have reached this stage at Wimbledon. Musetti becomes the seventh Italian man to achieve this milestone.

The 22-year-old Musetti is now set to face either Alexander Zverev or Taylor Fritz on Wednesday, promising another thrilling encounter for tennis fans.
